*Maple – The "go to" wood. 90% of our drums that we produce are maple shells.
For snare drums we typically use either 6, 8, 10, or 15-ply shells and can custom fabricate just about any other ply configuration.
Maple shells produce a warm rich tone and resonance for live or studio applications. We highly recommend our Keller VSS maple shells.
*Mahogany - A darker wood with a "warm" tone that produces a great sound for both live and studio settings.
*Birch - Birch is often used for more studio settings. A strong bright tone is produced and shell pitches are typically higher.
